Oral Health Care from Infancy On
Good oral care begins during pregnancy and lasts throughout your life. Visit Dr. Paul Andrews and Dr. Richard Andrews at our office in Mississauga early on to set your child up for dental success.
Foundational First Visits
The Canadian Academy of Pediatric Dentists recommends having your child visit the dentist within 6 months of their first tooth arriving or by the time they’re 1 year old. We encourage you to learn more about your child’s oral health.
First dental visits are a wellness checkup for your child’s gums, teeth, and oral development. We can make sure their teeth are progressing in a normal and healthy way, and catch small problems before they grow.
We aim to make the dentist a comfortable place for children, and you can help! Feeling good at the dentist begins at home. Be sure to speak positively about dental visits with your older kids. Help younger children prepare by practicing opening their mouth wide—just like you have them do when you clean their gums or teeth.
Do Baby Teeth Matter?
You may assume that since children typically lose their baby teeth, the health of those teeth isn’t as important. That isn’t so! Baby teeth play a crucial role in oral health and typically should last in the mouth until their teenage years.
Baby teeth set the foundation for how your child chews, speaks, and smiles. They also help keep space for the adult teeth that form beneath the gums, so losing a baby tooth too early may lead to crowding of the adult teeth.
