Tooth Extractions for Children
While our practice makes every effort to avoid extracting teeth, sometimes a tooth is so badly broken down that it cannot be fixed and our only option is to remove the tooth. Our team will work closely with you and your child to determine if a tooth extraction is the best course of action. If you have any questions before your child’s appointment, we’re happy to answer them.
Post-Extraction Home Care Instructions
After an extraction, you will be given specific home care instructions. It is important for you and your child to properly care for their mouth. After a tooth is removed, your child’s mouth may still be numb/frozen. They should avoid eating and drinking for 1–2 hours. After the dental freezing wears off, your child is basically back to normal. We routinely recommend the use of acetaminophen or ibuprofen and following the packaging dosage instructions if they experience any discomfort after the freezing wears off.
